Raya - 5

Danga Bay, Johor Bahru, Johor Malaysia

I spend one night in Johor Bahru before I flew back to Australia. Lin became my tourist guide because she used to work in JB about six years ago. We took a bus to go to Danga Bay or previously known as Lido beach to meet this Pak cik and Mak Cik. Luckily it was still early because we got out at the wrong bus stand. Therefore we had to walk further for another 10 minutes to reach Danga Bay… ahaks… once we reached the tram centre, Pak cik and Mak cik already there. We cit chat for a while and we gave them Salted Ikan Terubuk for Kuching. We continued our stay at Danga Bay and decided to go for tram ride. I cost us RM3 perhead.... good experienced but I'm not really happy with the safety and another annoying situation when the driver kept on honking the pedestrian. They should remind the passenger about the safety and find the proper mechanism to ensure the pedestrian get away from the track..maybe replacing the irratating honking sound with pleasant music?????

About my kakak, I'm very close with her, she's my enemy and she's also my friend....ekekeke. I can't denied that she is the best kakak..err by the way she's the only kakak..eheheh. Who am I today is part and parcel of her influence, for her best example especially in academic... upsr/penilaian darjah 5, PMR/SRP, SPM, degree, master....I do believe as a sister or brother, we should set a good example to our adik-adik...somehow it will infuence and expose them to the importance of life. Thanks to my big sis!!!

The new house was ready but they might just stuff their furniture and all their good since they planned to be away for 3 years starting the end of this year. At my sis, a part of all the cakes, we are served with lodeh and satay.... by the way that is the photo of my nephew..very mischievous and super active boy...lady in pink is my younger sis, lady in blue is my youngest sis and lady in yellow is my beloved mum.....ahaks

Raya - 3
Endoscopy Suite, Normah Medical Specialist centre, Kuching Sarawak

I arrived in Kuching on the 10 October. The following day I had made an appointment with the physician. There were three available physicians on that day and all of them I’m familiar with. I prefer to see Dr. G but unfortunately he’s not available in the morning. So I met Dr. C whom is well known for his sense of unfriendliness… whatever!!!….after discussing a few things, he then referred me to general surgeon Dr. L for the endoscopy. I just had my breakfast and medicine in the morning (obviously I’m not fasting by that time in month of Ramadhan…shyyyhhh). By then I was not allowed to take any food till after the procedure. So, he asked me to come back at 3.30 pm and see Dr L. Dr L is very friendly and soft-spoken doc. He went through my file and screens all my history for the last 10 years and he did ask me few questions here and there. Then I got ready for the endoscopy. I came with my dad because I cannot drive after the procedures. The nurse guided me to the endoscopy room which is next to emergency room. My dad and I sat for a while and then the nurse called me in to the suite. There were 2 nurses; the assistant and the instrument nurse around and they asked me to change my cloth and take off my spec. They asked me if I wear any denture but I said no. I lied down on the bed and the nurse covered me with the blanket. Then Dr. L came in and explained the procedure to me. He gave me the injection on my left arm and just in few minutes I’m off. I just woke up after the procedure…Dr. L told me something but I barely can remember…ekekeke kind of drowsy. Dr L gave my dad a copy of CD of my endoscopy and before we went home, my dad settled the bills. It cost us about RM700, not that bad I guess. Since the doc said I’m ok ….so I enjoyed my raya and all the food. But once I got the full report from DR L, then I found out there is gastritis and erosion in my stomach lining. Lin told me I better not take spicy food and carbonated drinks….ekekekek luckily we only knew after raya….if not there is no meaning of raya without all the foods and carbonated drinks. By the way the helicobacter pylori result was negative.

Raya - 2
With Kasawari and the boys, Senai Airport, Johor Malaysia

I met Kasawari on the way back to Kuching. I went back through Singapore from Perth and then I took another flight to Kuching at 6.05 pm. I need to go to the boarding gate at 5.30 pm and luckily Kasawari and his family arrived early and if not I will missed the chance to meet them. It just a short meeting and it was the first time I met blogger. Ammar and Aiman are very cute…and Ammar was very mischievous ekkekeke..see his action in the photo. Thanks for the pineapple tarts, my favourite biscuit..uhuhu.

I called kasawari again this afternoon, and he told me his wife set to undergo operation tomorrow. It was supposed to be today but postponed to tomorrow. ..hope everything will be fine.

When I arrived in Kuching, my brother picked me up at the airport. We supposed to go to my sis house because she invited my parents and family for break fasting and also to celebrate in my ‘homecoming’. Since I arrived a bit late, my mum already went to visit my aunty on her way home. So, we changed the plan and my brother drove me to my parent’s house straight away. I arrived first then my mum. She was very shocked to see me at home..ekekkekeke…I hugged her and then I distributed all the presents for my parents, sisters and my only brother. That night we slept pretty late. I had the ‘sembang’ session till late mid night. This is kind of tradition…when we are away for a long time and return home, we will have a long conversation and pick up whatever story that we miss when we are away…

Raya - 1
"Home Sweet Home" Kuching, Sarawak Malaysia
Alhamdulilah, I safely arrived in Perth last night at around 9 pm and only reached home at 11.30 pm. My Bruneian friends picked me up at the airport around 10.30 pm and then I had my super at their house. They came late because I only managed to inform them once I reached Perth. Lin did sms them early but due to technical problem, the sms didn’t reached them. Late last night when I checked my blog, I read the message left by Hairie at my cbox about Kasawari7. I did call Kasawari this morning and alhamdulilah they are doing fine. Only his wife still admitted in the hospital. I will pray for them that everything will be fine. Poor Aimman and Ammar, they must be very shocked due to the accident. To Mrs Kasawari7, speedy recovery wishes for her. I got to go and I will update my raya event later…still jet lag..uhuhuhu

Freo market - 3
Peanuts, Frementle Western Australia
Peanuts..I guess most of us know this species.. especially raya is just round the corner. Peanuts remind me of Satay sauce or gravy or know as Kuah Satay. I still remember when I was in UK, I bought salty peanuts at Kwik Save to prepare Kuah satay for myself. It’s much easier and I just blend the salty peanut.

Speaking of the witch, I would like to inform all of my friends here that I will "balik kampong" tonight till 21 Oct…travel from Perth to Singapore, then JB to Kuching. Please pray for my safe journey home to be with my family. Lin will only join me in Kuching on the 3rd raya ..it will be a happening raya..InsyaAllah. Next year, we can not celebrate with complete family members because my sister and her family will be away too. Anyway...It will be a big suprise for my parents because they don't know about me coming home...shhhsss keep it a secret ok! So, I would like to wish you all;
SELAMAT HARI RAYA MAAF ZAHIR BATIN
p/s I will try blogging from time to time …or whenever I have time..miss u all..ahaks

Freo market - 2
Hazel nuts, Frementle Western Australia
Honestly I don't know much about hazel nut. If my memory doesn’t fail me, I started to become familiar with the term hazel nut when I was in kindergarten. Long time ago, when my dad bought us chocolate with hazel nut. A part from that, I never saw the real hazel nut or even the shrub which produce the nuts. I’m not really into chocolate but hazelnut chocolate always my preference....ahak! At freo market, I saw the nuts and it’s quite expensive even though not as expensive as macadamia nut...well nothing cheaper here in Australia..kui kui kui!! Here is the fact about hazel nut;

The Common Hazel (Corylus avellana) is a species of hazel native to Europe and Asia.
The name of the species, avellana is derived from Avellino, a place in Italy.
It is typically a shrub reaching 3-8 m tall, but can reach 15 m. The leaves are deciduous, rounded, 6-12 cm long and across, softly hairy on both surfaces, and with a double-serrate margin.

Freo market - 1Coffee beans, Frementle Western Australia
Last Sunday I went to Fremantle market a.k.a Freo market. It was really happening over there. There are variety choices of product… that is amazing. It is a good place for tourists. I found so many interesting products and the ambience just make you feel..errr how to describe it...well it makes you feel just right. The prices and qualities of the product are not bad. Actually I knew about this market long time ago but don't be bother to go there. I don't the real reason but might be we are really into E-shed market I guess. E-shed is another famous market in Fremantle but its different atmosphere. For me, where ever I go, the first place I would love to go is to the farmers market or whatever well-known term applied such as weekend market, tamu market etc. The market is consider as the gateway to the real tourism spots for me...what I’m trying to say the market usually consist of all component which allows you to experience the culture, the local product, the indigenous product, food souvenir etc. The photo I took above is the stall which sells different types of flavoured coffee beans. My friend bought the Vanilla flavoured. For me Nescafe is always the best..ahaks.... free credit to NESCAFE.

I met my supervisor on Tuesday. The consultation day is supposed to be every Monday. Unfortunately she was too busy so she rescheduled it on Tuesday. It was about 2 hours meeting and there were a lot of thing to attend to. I’m not really happy with one issue because I submitted the task to her last month. But since she was too busy, she didn’t deal with it till we had passed the date line. The reason I submitted it early because I know there will be a lot of changes and correction. So at least if she deals with it earlier, she will allow me an ample time to do all the correction. Since that was not the case, then I’m became the victim here. She asked me to edit the task and submit to her on Wednesday morning because it was long overdue. And I knew that I can’t finish it on time only if I stay up. After the meeting I was doing the work till 5.30 pm. I went home for my iftar and by then I remembered I need to go to the airport. I promised to G & M to fetch their parents from Indonesia. Promise is promise so at 9 pm, I went to fetch G and drove to the airport. My other friend drove her car with M and we convoyed to the airport. We got back from the airport at about 10.30 pm then I went straight to my work station to continue with my unfinished business. I managed to get it done by 3.30 am and send to my supervisor by email. I went home for Sahur and after Subuh at around 5, I went straight to bed. Luckily my shift only starts at 11.30 am. So I woke up at 9.30 am and get myself ready for work. Fuhhhh…I hate this situation and I hate last minute job. But sometimes in life we need to face it but if possible try to avoid it. Do you know that Stress may make your age faster? Ouchhh there are lines on my forehead…ahaks!!!

p/s Lin said sleep is the best stressbuster!!!

The joy of break fasting with Bruneian friends -2
Beef layer cake, Bentley Western Australia
Thanks to my friends, for the invitation. Really enjoy the food. There were briyani, chicken curry, beef stew, mixed vege, lamb ribs, fruits, noodle and even ikan masin.. delicious… I brought beef layer cake ..which I baked that Saturday afternoon. Actually I got to know Mat when he first came to the University. I had a short meeting with his lecturer, Dr Chris. At that time, Dr. Chris brought all new students for a visit to the main campus. Right after discussion, Mat approached us and Dr. Chris introduces him to me. Then we had a short conversation and exchanged telephone number. Pity him because he was based in one of the isolated campus which is about 2 hours from Perth.. There is no life in that small town..just like small cowboy town. I had been there once. So, he told me his difficulties to get halal meat etc. I offered him to come down to Perth the following week after we first met. He stayed overnight at my house and we went to halal butcher to buy his food stock. But at last he changed his course and moved to Bentley. He can’t stay in that town and being the only Muslim in that campus. He joined his other Bruneian friends and stay with them.

Mi Hailam
Victoria Park, Western Australia
Yesterday I was so busy at my workstation. I managed to see my sensei to discuss few things and it kept me busy all day. Later in the afternoon, my friend asked me if I want to go to Fremantle for Fish and Chips but I didn't feel like going. I was very tired mentally and physically uhuhu. Almost 5 pm I went to the butcher and IGA (supermarket) to buy ingredient for Mi Hailam. Earlier, I did check the recipe on the net and it’s pretty simple. Once I reached home I started my cooking session immediately. I only have less than half an hour before break the fast. Alhamdulilah, I finished cooking on time...walla...Mi Hailam!!!
Makan-Makan
Murdoch, Western Australia

After working on Sunday morning (before the month of ramadhan) a friend of mine picked me up at home. We had an invitation from a friend in Murdoch. We planned to visit them many times but keep on postponed due to other commitments. But recently during the Merdeka Fest they had invited us again. So we made it this time. On the way, we stopped to buy drinks since I had no time to prepare anything. We thought just both of us but there were other three family as well. Goshhh..I'm not really close to all of them.....what an akward situation..uhuhuhu!!! I considered myself as social handicapped unless I know the person. It wasn' that bad but I tend to be a little bit quiet. I wouldn't talked much then.... Maybe there were so many people and I didn't know how to join them...uhhuhuhu...so I just smiled and rather become a listener. The food served was very good. There were mi siam, laksa terengganu and capati with spinach chicken curry. It was my first time to eat mi siam.. I don't know much about mi siam but i guessed it from siam.... ahaks..

There is no excuse!
Frementle, Western Australia

I met my colleague this morning. She told me that her supervisor allowed her to pray during her shift and she even suggested a few places that she can perform her prayer. When she got the job offer earlier, she did ask me about this matter. As for man, it’s much easier for me to pray and it wouldn’t take long and in fact my shift this time allowed me to pray at home or mussola. There is no clashed since I’m not on duty before Zuhur till after Asar or before Asar till after Margrib. Even on Friday I told my supervisor that I couldn’t work between 12 till 3 because I need to go for Friday prayer. So I asked her to explain to her supervisor about the matter. She did and the response was very positive. What I’m trying to highlight here, I’m very glad that non-Muslim aware of our duty to Allah. They are very positive and open about it. Thats why I’m very proud to share with my supervisor about Islam. He’s very curious about it and asked a few question regarding it. For me it’s a form of dakwah, to introduce Islam to non-Muslim. At least now he knows that Muslim people need to pray 5 times and they also need to fast during the Ramadhan. I told my friend, at least she set the precedent, so in the future it will much easier for other Muslim to work in this organization At least the employer are well aware about our duty and with the hope that they will make it easy for us. On the other side, I heard my friend told me there is a few cases in Malaysia where the Muslim people are in difficulties to pray during their working hours. This is ridiculous, Malaysia as a Muslim country (even many people argue about it) still facing this kind of issues. I believed we must fight for our right wherever we are. For example before in Malaysia, TV presenter was not allowed to wear headscarf but at least now they are open about it. This regulation is all set by human so we can change it whenever we want….right! My experienced living in western countries so far alhamdulilah..Allah makes it easy for me. I used to pray on the parking lot, on the park, on the bus station and everywhere…. I bet most of us who used to live in Western Countries did experience the same thing. And of course it easy for man like me, but for women they really need to find a place which is a bit isolated. Lin told me as for women, they are very shy if people see their movement during the prayer. That’s why women are encouraged to wear suitable dress (loose and long dress) so it will be easier for them to perform their prayer everywhere. Ahakss...try not to talk about food...uhuhu but I can foresee food is always an interesting topic to discuss..ehehe

yum yum yum
Victoria Park, Western Australia
Yesterday, we decided to break fast at one of the Indonesian Restaurant which is not far from my house. We supposed to go with our Indonesian friends but unfortunately they can't make it. So my friend and I just proceed with the plan. Then, only on this coming wedneday we will breakfast with our Indonesian friends. But we haven't decided the place, but there's a few choices available..so just wait and see. Yesterday we ordered fried watercrest (kangkung goreng belacan), deep fried beef (daging empal), omelet, and roasted fish with sambal belacan. Ummm, it was really good. It had been a long time to have proper food like this..uhuhuhu. But it did cost us an arm and a leg...about AUD$33…ahaks... Ohh, forgot to mention that I had ordered ais cendol too...nice nice nice...

Tamr
Dates, Victoria Park Western Australia
The month of Ramadhan will always be associated with tamr or dates. Maybe it just likes Chinese whom are well allied with mandrin orange during the Chinese New Year.
We may note that the Sunnah commends dates for the breaking of the fast in Ramadhan. The great worth of dates is also indicated in a famous and beautiful passage of the Qur'an, surah Maryam, verses 25-6:
"And shake towards you the trunk of the palm-tree and it will drop on you fresh ripe dates. So eat and drink and be comforted".
Personally I don't really like dates because it’s too sweet but I do take it for break fast. Every year, my dad will buy dates for Ramadhan...well its kind of a long established custom in my family. So, during the breakfast, dates will be always on the table. He likes date and as for me, I don't really into it. I think fresh dates suit me better, it’s not too sweet. For this Ramadhan, I'm totally forgotten about dates till a friend of mine gave me a box of it. JazakaAllah khir to my friend!!! So, there is no reason for not taking dates for breaking fast..ahaks…

Tarawih

Tarawih at Mussola, Bentley (video clip after 8 rakaat)

What a hectic day...after finishing my shift this afternoon, a friend of mine had introduced me to brother Wassim, a Jordanian. He just arrived in Perth and had been looking for temporary accommodation. Right after lunch (we had our lunch at Sahara Café, an Indian restaurant) we went to look for YMCA in Perth city. I know there is one cheap YMCA but usually it is fully book. You really need to book at least 1 week earlier. We just walked in and he' was very lucky to get the room…only one room left at that time. It cost him AUD$39 per night but after student discount he only pay for AUD$31. Then we went to Riverdale to pick his baggage and send it back to the YMCA. After that we rushed back to Bentley to perform our Margrib prayer. He asked us to leave him at the mussola since he managed to contact his friend. So, I just leaved my mobile number in case he needs any help later. After Margrib I decided to stay for Tarawih. There was a little confusion because some people said that Ramadhan will start tomorrow and some people argue that it will be on Friday. So after Isya, the mussola committee made an announcement saying that we will start fasting tomorrow. So, I continued with Tarawih but I was only performed 8 rakaat……uhuhuhu ..Can’t afford to do 20..ahaksss... opsss I just received an email from the President of CMSA while writing this entry to confirm that we will start fasting tomorrow;
As-Salamu ^Alaykum Brothers and sisters in Islam. Today is the 30th ofSha^ban and hence tomorrow is the first day of Ramadan. There is a bitof debate as to whether today is the 30th or not. I know from mycolleagues in the eastern states who have released a prayer calendarrecently that today, according to them is the 30th of sha^ban and Iknow that Saudi also is in the 30th of sha^ban so my self I cannotargue with this and Insha-'Allah tomorrow will be Ramadan. And I alsoknow that the majority of the Islamic countries are also fasting onthursday. Ramadan Kareem to everybody and Insha-Allah I will see youall at the Iftar tomorrow night at the Mushalla. Merdeka Fest 2007 - II
Supreme Court Garden, Perth Australia

Merdeka..merdeka merdeka..talking about Independent day, I have no specific nostalgia that I can refer too. For me independent day is just like any public holiday or weekend where I can stay at home, a good break for the routine. During my schooling time, it’s the time to study, do my homework or watch television. I don’t really go out and watch all the parades or any program organize in conjunction with merdeka celebration. It’s not only merdeka but all other events. The crowd really makes me headache and it seem not worth it to squeeze myself around so many people. I rather stay and relax at home or go out for food..Jalan-Jalan Cari Makan. When I was in UK, the same thing happened. I’m really into anything and busy with my studies. I can’t remember any single think about celebrating Merdeka in UK. But after reading the entry from Jeff Rockers…I just realized that we were celebrating our 50th Independent day and I don’t even have any single story to relate myself with this remarkable celebration. And if my future generation asks me what I did during the 50th independent day, I will have no answer for that. That’s why I decided to go for the Merdeka Fest 2007 at Supreme Court Garden, Perth. Don’t get me wrong, all this while it doesn’t mean I don’t love my country, it’s just that I have my own way to celebrate it. Even though I’m reluctant to join the Merdeka celebration events, but at least I did my own ritual..improving myself, be good citizen and make sure I have all the good quality as being a Malaysian. If you see most of the youngsters take this opportunity as an excuse to indulge themselves with the negative activities. You can read the endless news after the count down of detik 12 malam. How many people get killed, get themselves drunk, and all sort of not harmonized activites? Back to Merdeka Fest 2007 in Perth, Alhamdulilah it can be rated as excellent. Most of the people enjoyed it and Malaysian from different races; Chinese, Malay and Indian had celebrated it together. In fact there were local and international people came and joined us on that day. There were a Lion dances, Joget, Indian dance, traditional games, Malaysian food and etc. We even got a small flag…our Jalur Gemilang. I also had the opportunity to play congkak…traditional games..and I'm so proud that I won the games…uhuhuhu ..Anyway it was just one round and we need to give space to others to play. Kids also have their own activities. Now I have my own sweet memory in celebrating our 50th Independent Day. Hidup Malaysia!!!!!

Beautiful Day
Bently, Western Australia
Yesterday morning, the parking lot was pretty full but I spotted the best parking space …..Yessss!!!! Indeed it was my lucky day. I just made 1 round to get the parking and what more it was the best parking. On the way to my workplace, I saw there were lot of stalls along the walkway. They sold all different kind of stuff such as watches, clothes, plants and books. I just walked straight down the walkways. Suddenly someone stopped me and offered me a Double Strength Iced Coffee. I was about to refuse but I reckoned that was for free..so I just took it and wished her many thanks with sweetest ever smile..uhuhuhu….of course you feel delighted when someone give you free drink except alcohol drink la….This is what we call rezk! I guess they want to promote new flavoured drink…. After checking the ingredients, its confirm halal. Well..who knows it got alcohol or whatsoever. I still remember a friend of mine; he’s a kind of pretty confidence lad. One day he bought a juice in the bottle. He finished it at a single gulp without even checking the ingredient. Then he told me that he felt a bit dizzy. Out of my conscious mind, I grabbed the bottle and without a blink I scanned through the ingredient…here you go…it does contain 10% alcohol !!!!! By then he learned his lesson and so did I. I have become pathetic when I want to buy any food or drink. Even if you want to buy any footwear..sometimes they use pig skins for the lining…Beware!!!!
After finished my shift yesterday afternoon, I went to the health service. Alhamdulilah my urine test result is ok. So, I just keep my every six months follow up with the doctor. Uhhuhuhu..I could live a thousand years..ahaks!!!! Ain't it beautiful...a beautiful day...

Kari -Kicap-Belacan

Curry Chicken, Victoria Park Western Australia
Last night I got a recipe from Yanglerni. I complained to her that my curry taste the same ever since. I want something different, I want a change, I want different taste…..so she gave me a recipe to try. So this evening I tried the new recipe. It’s a bit disaster…the onion, ginger and garlic were over fried..uwaaaa..so I had to prepare the ingredient all over again. It takes quite sometimes to cook this style of curry. Unlike my recipe… I just pour everything and it’s all done. I overrule the right technique of cooking..ehehe. Well this evening I did prepare a proper curry dish. Walllaaaa.it’s delicious…well not because I cooked it but because of the recipe..thanks to Yanglerni ! Well…. I have different habit in relation to eat curry. My favorite is always eating curry with plain rice, soys sauce ketchup (cap kipas udang.. promote Malaysian product) and also shrimp paste (belacan). I can’t resist if there is curry with ketchup and sambal belacan….. so tempting. The sambal belacan is very simple, just blend belacan with chilies and add a little bit of lime juice. I don’t know if it’s only me… but Lin said it’s a strange....eehehehe. But please try it at home….you will lick your finger…uhuhuhu.

Ramadhan in Cairo
Me riding a camel, Cairo Egypt

Marhaban ya Ramadhan…it's just round the corner… we will be in the month which is full with barakah. Somehow Ramadhan remind me of my visit to Cairo during the month of Ramadhan few years back. I went there with my Libyan friend named Khalifah. We decided not to join any package since he speaks Arabic. Before I went to Cairo, I have different kind of perception about this capital city of Egypt. This is due to Al Azhar University, world-renowned for its position as a center of Islamic scholarship and education. There are a lot of our religious scholars graduated from here. But when I arrived in Cairo, then I can see the true color of Cairo which is not up to my expectation. I experienced it all, taking the public bus up to the taxi, but most of (not all) the public are not civilized enough. When we were on the cab, the taxi driver tries to cheat us. Luckily Khalifah was aware of this and he argued with the taxi driver. When we ride the camel, the same thing happened. The camel operator tried to cheat us. Khalifah did quarrel with them and at last he reported to the police. I’m so scared at that time and I told Khalifah its ok with the money. But he told me we can’t just let them go but teach them a good lesson. At last we managed to get our money back. The worst thing is that when they cheat, they just simple swear with the name of Allah..Wallahi! Wallahi! (I swear to Allah). That’s terrible!! I don’t make any blanket rule here, but this is based on my experience. Not all of them are acting like a moron. Surely there are always good and bad people. If all are good people then we don’t need any police institution or court jurisdiction at all right…uhhuhuhu. A part from this, Cairo is a good place to visit. Just join the tour group which is better and safe, everything is arranged for you. I’m so excited to see the pyramid and sphinx. The Great Pyramid of Giza is one of the seven wonders. We also had an opportunity to visit the Masjid of Muhammad Ali in the Citadel of Salahideen in Old Cairo. Don’t forget the museum to see the mummy. The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities (Egyptian Museum) is home to the most extensive collection of ancient Egyptian antiquities in the world.

Man fears Time, yet Time fears the Pyramids
Arab proverb

I told Lin that I really want to experience the fasting month in Makkah. InsyaAllah after I settle all my unfinished business, then I will arrange for the trip. Hope Allah will grant me a good health and prosperity to see more …..the other side of the world!
Chaos Monday- Laksa Sarawak
Victoria Park, Western Australia

I woke up early today because I need to repeat the urine test at the health centre. Back from the health centre I went straight home for breakfast. Yesterday I cooked laksa Sarawak for my dinner. So, it’s the same menu for my breakfast this morning. After breakfast, I decided to go to my workstation. I need to do some works which seems not moving. On the way to Technology Park I dropped at the post office. What unfortunate day… I forgot the car key in the car..arghhhh!!! I tried to become Mac Gyver but it seems that I have no talent at all. I checked my Wallet, then luckily I found the house spare key and I tried to recall if I keep any spare car key at home. I’m pretty confidence I did, so I call my friend. While waiting for friend to come, I went to post office to settle my business. In the post office, I met this Malaysian couple. So, I just asked them..” dari Malaysia ke” …”aa..baru sampai semalam”, they replied. So, I chit chat with them for a while and they seems settling ok. They got friends here to help them. Before I end the conversation, I told them feel free to contact me if they need any help. My friend picked me up and drove me home. Just in a few second I found the spare key..yesss!! Problem solved. Then my friend dropped me back to the car park. Thanks to my friend who save my day!!!

Spring is FINALLY here
Araluen, Western Australia

It's Yates Springtime at Araluen, one of Western Australia's premier gardening events and you're invited to come and marvel at the splendid array of vibrant Spring blooms that will be on show.
Indulge in the spectacular display of over 100,000 tulips as well as other spring blooms in a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere.
There'll be daffodils, Jonquils, Azaleas, Camellias, Rhododendrons, Magnolias, Lilacs and of course, the renowned Tulip display.

I went to Araluen with my three other friends. It was a last minute plan. Actually our Indonesian friends already informed us earlier about Yates springtime at Araluen, but none of us can confirm. I’m very busy with so many things and all those medical follow up. A friend text me again yesterday and informed me that Araluen is only a short distance which is less than 1 hour. So, we decided to go this morning. It’s worth it to see all those colourful scenery and lots of people. The entrance fee is only AUD$7 per head. We took lots of photo especially with tulips. What a “mat bunga” today..ahaksss! Araluen – an Eastern States aboriginal world meaning “singing waters”, “running waters” or “place of lilies”. Click here for more photos...

2 pass 1 fail
Bentley, Western Australia
I went to work a bit early this morning. I didn't realise the fact that I’m early only when I reached the car park. There were only small numbers of cars. Usually I need to make a few rounds before I managed to get the parking. Today is not a public holiday in Western Australia and hell its definitely not an Independent day (merdeka! merdeka! merdeka!)....uhuhuhu..Then I checked my watch, its not even 8 am, no wonder! What an early bird. While marching to my workplace, my brain started to compute the suitable activities to do while waiting for my shift. I decided to check my emails and read news online. Well, today was quite boring, not much queries and not much work to deal with. After finishing my work, I grabbed some lunch (beef stew, vegetables and plain rice). Then I went straight to the Health Centre. They did take another blood sample yesterday. It's not the same nurse so I can feel the pain. Unlike the previous nurse..uhuhuhu.. I missed her! It’s not that painful but only the exaggerated feeling! Today I made it on time in fact I’m early for the appointment (learn from the lesson!!! No more Malaysian time). Once the doctor called me in and ushered me for the seat, he explained the result to me. I passed all the tests except 1 test. Another two tests I’m doing ok, nothing to worry about but another test I need to repeat. Iskkk..feel like sitting for the exam..pass, fail and repeat...uhuuhuhu. He made an early appointment for me on Monday morning next week. But I do believe I will pass the repeat test because I’m "clever enough"...ahahaha...missed old good days when I did my undergrad..life full with tests, assignments, exams.. I like assignment but not exam. Assignment is something that you are fully incharge..you can do like there's no tomorrow to get the best result. But when it comes to exam or test, there are many external factors influence your performance. For instances your nervousness can affect your performance. You can’t give your best!! After all the hassle with the work and the health things, I went to Jumaah prayer. The khutbah today is about fasting..marhaban ya Ramadhan. Few points I would like to share;

The month of Ramadan is an opportunity to develop qualities of endurance and self-restraint, to control anger and a fiery or malicious tongue

"The strong man is in fact the person who controls himself at the time of anger."
The above Hadith is stated in Bukhari.

Wordless Wednesday
Technology Park, Bentley Western Australia

This morning I received a phone call but I missed it. But the caller left the voicemail message.

Hi I’m looking for arsaili, I’m XXXX calling from Health Service Centre. Please call me back at XXXXXXX and speak to myself or any available nurses. Thank you.

“Umm, this must be related to the blood and urine test”, I told myself. So fast, I thought i will only get the result by thursday nextweek!. I rang back and spoke to the nurse. After asking for my identification – full name and date of birth, she told me about the result. The blood test is not good so I need to come and see the doctor for further details. She did explain to me but my brain was not functioning properly at that time. Uhuhuhu..absent minded syndrome. What am I going to explain to Lin later..aiyoyoyo…I don’t even know the details. Its ok, just wait till I see the doctor on Friday at 12.15 pm. Then I will get all the details. This time around I will make sure I wouldn’t miss my appointment again! Iskkk..not in the working mood, but I need to finish the “checklist things”…assignment from my sensei. To do or not to do…to do or not to do…lalalalala!

One fine Saturday

Australian Islamic College, Kewdale Western Australia

Subject: Pre-Ramadan Islamic Bazaar this weekend

Assalamu Alaikum IBC - Islamic Books & Clothing from Melbourne are coming to Perth for one weekend only to hold an Islamic Bazaar. We have literally picked up our shop in Melbourne.....................

When: Sat August 18th & Sun August 19th
Where: The Gymnasium at AIC Kewdale President Street, Kewdale
Time: 10:00 am - 6:00 pm
Who: Everybody is Welcome

#Excerpted from the email send by info@islam-australia.net

Last two week, I went to Pre Ramadhan Islamic Bazaar with a friend. At first we thought Kewdale is very far, but on the day we want to go, I found out its not really far from my house...heck...just wasting my energy to think about where to pray, where to buy halal lunch etc... it is on the way to Belmont Shopping centre. I drove pretty confidence since I'm familiar with the main road and there is also a detail map that I bought. The best thing in this country, the layout of the road is very systematic. You just need to count how many junction or traffic light as a guide and it will lead you to your destination. The problem occurred when we reached the Australian Islamic College (AIC). At the main entrance, there is no sign or banner about this event. There is not even a single car there. They must be kidding if they assumed all people would know where the gymnasium is. I checked at the back entrance on the left wing but there was no crowd at all. I drove back to the main entrance. By then there were 2 cars on the parking lot. So, my friend asked one of the lady drivers if she got any idea where is the event taking place. She's also on the same boat. So, I decided to drive and check the right wing. At last I found it. It is not near to drive from one end to another end, from one wing to another wing. This is very lousy promotional technique, arrrgggh!!!. When we entered the building, there were lots of items available especially the Islamic books. When I just about to do the cruising, I heard the adzan zohor. So, I decided to join the jamaah which was held outside the gymnasium but still in the building. After the prayer I continued with the cruising and I found 3 interesting books. There are quite expensive but it should be ok. You can't compare dollar to ringgit right... But the worst thing is that, all that 3 books are still intact on my bookshelf. There are endless list of books I would love to read. But I'm so busy with my work and project...maybe later when I'm in the stress mode and my brain are saturated with works and project, then I will pick one of the book from the list. I think the bestseller novel by John Grisham is at the top rank of my list at this point of time.

Monday blues
Health Service, Bentley Western Australia

Gosh..I’m late for my appointment. I woke up early this morning, but after subuh I went back to bed. I’m still not feeling very well this morning. Then I have just realised that I’m late for my appointment. It was suppose to be at 1045 and once I reached there it’s already 1105. Aiyoooo..I make a sad - 10cent face to the receptionist. She was asking me if I have a good reason for coming late…I told her that I’m sick this morning. At last she squeezes me in and the doctor also mad at me for being late. I just said sorry....it’s my fault ..sob sob sob. I came to see him for two reasons, for the flu (more than a week) and also for my every 6 month follow up as adviced by my nephrologist. I don’t like the follow up; in fact I’m supposed to do it in the last 2 months. I’m scared of the needle uhuhuhh.. Thank God, my blood pressure was nomal, that’s a good sign that I’m doing ok. Then I went to take my urine sample, the ‘mid stream’ urine. Since I did urine sample for many times, so I’m quite an expert already. The finale... its time for blood sample...my heart beats started to play the dangdut rhythm…dag dig dug (I just read about the dangdut singer, Haiza got married to the ex-hockey player). I told the nurse that I’m so scared of the needle even though this is my hundred times. “Nobody likes needles” she replied. I salute her..she’s an expert, I don’t even feel any pain. Fuhhhhh..what a relief!!!!!! The doc asked me to call for the result between 2-3 pm, Thursday next week.
Sunday Scribblings
Bentley, Western Australia
It was late in the afternoon. I just finished my duty. A soft wind chilled the air. I was heading back to my car. Once I reached the car park, its raining…its pouring and I can see people were running from the rain. I drove my old white Toyota hatchback 1.6 cc to the workstation at the Technology Park. By then, its stop raining and I walked slowly to the workstation to check my email. Then I rang Lin using my skype account. It is cheap for international call and we had been chatting for a while. On the way to praying room, I met a Vietnamese friend. I’m not that close with him though but both of us usually stay late in the workstation. He told me that he’s leaving to Vietnam for good. He will be flying to Kuala Lumpur tonight and then to Ho Chi Min city. Deep down I started to feel sad…sentimental feeling took place. Well, sad because no more friends accompanying me to burn midnight oil. I wish him all the best with his career. After I performed my prayer I drove to Zam house. Earlier, I had sms him about my visit. His wife just delivered a cute baby boy last week. I brought a gift for Zam junior and also his daughter. I’m just afraid that kakak will be jealous to see her brother get a present. Woww…I met energetic Zam junior, so much like his dad. “Like father like son” I said. After having coffee and peach caramel, I told Zam that I want to make a move. Its getting late and I headed back home to cook my dinner, Honey Roasted Chicken rice. Fuhhh….Mission accomplished!

Marsupial Mammal 2
Rotness Island, Western Australia

What Rat? Not Rat?
After frequently seeing what they believed to be rats, Dutch voyagers named this island Rottnest (Rats nest). In fact the rats were quokkas, the pouched mammal almost exclusively found on the island and its unofficial mascot.

Quokka belongs to the same family of kangaroo - the marsupial mammal. This herbivore creature is very welcoming. When we were in the island, we can saw a lot of them. At first I feel a bit reluctant to be in close proximity with this creature because it reminds me of a rat. But when I saw her (I assumed it is a female quokka), the way she moves and acts make me fascinated. It’s nothing like rat and so cute indeed. I fed her with the bread and hey look.. the way she eat...just like human.

Keroncong buat Ana
East Victoria Park

I had really late dinner last Sunday. I was fall asleep and when I got up it’s almost 10 pm. I can hear the pleasant sound of a growling stomach …I guess my stomach started to play a beautiful song call “keroncong buat Ana”…but the sad thing is that there was no food for dinner (uwaaa sedih sey). I’m so lazy to cook in the middle of the night. Well actually I don’t want to disturb my neighbour next door. The wall is very poor sound proof insulation…but I had no choice. I’m “hungry like a horse”..so I decided to cook egg sauce bihun, simple and fast recipe (for lazy people like me). I tried my best to minimise the sound effect and you can imagine how polite I am that night. If not you can hear all the utensils kind of flying here and there. While chatting with Uncle J, I managed to prepare my dinner..ehehe..I told him that I’m “killing two birds with one stone”. Let me share the recipe….

*Heat 2 spoon of cooking oil in wok
*Stir fry garlic and onion till yellowish
*Add some water
*Add corn flour (which already dilute in water)
*Add fish sauce, oyster sauce and soy sauce
*Put squid and fish ball
*Put carrot and pak choi
*a pinch of salt
*at last, put egg and stir

I never measure anything, so all measurements are approximate and should be adjusted based on your taste.

Then serve with bihun…walla!!!!!

Agik idup agik ngelaban
Technology Park, Bentley

I don’t feel happy today with my work. Maybe I’m stress with the new working schedule. It keeps on changing and it’s hard for me to settle. Once you are at your comfort zone there will be a resistance to change. Another issue is the working values. I don’t know, working in this country is totally different when I was in UK. You can’t denied the fact that “lain padang lain belalang, lain ikan lain lubuknya” or something like “to live and let live”. In whatever situation, we need to learn how to adapt well. I’m trying my best but it wouldn’t give me any satisfaction.....till the clashed of my personal values with the working values resolved.

"It’s time we stopped putting up with unhappy workplaces and bad bosses. Unhappiness at work is not a minor annoyance. It makes us tired, stressed and negative. Worst case, it makes us sick or kills us. Being happy at work makes you more energetic, productive, motivated, creative and successful. That is what we need more of. That is how we will work from now on" - Alexander Kjerulf

"Ini Bahagianku Di dunia" as quoted from KS blog
Westfield Carousel Shopping Centre, Perth

When I read this wordings "there's something for everyone", its remind me of one of the entries from Kassim Selamat..."Ini bahagianku di dunia". Yea..Allah is the Al-Mighty..each and everyone of us have our own faith and destiny, there's always something for us, might it be good or bad. For instance we might think sickness is bad for us, but only Allah knows what is really good or bad. I think that’s why people come out with the term 'A blessing in disguise'. We don't recognize the mussibah that we face at first as a good thing. So, always look on the bright sight of life. InsyaAllah.."there's something for everyone", but I would like to remind myself that our life just like a rollercoster, there is up and down.

To KS, keep on writing coz I will always miss the entries. Yea..take a break but don't dissappered ok. Recite as many du'a as possible KS...

La ila ha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu minazzalimeen(Ch. Al-Anbiya (21): vs. 87)And Yunus, when he went away in wrath, so he thought that We would not straiten him, so he called out among afflictions: There is no God but Thou, glory be to Thee; surely I am of those who make themselves to suffer loss.

Kangaroo is a marsupial mammal; Mammals of which the females have a pouch (the marsupium) containing the teats where the young are fed and carried*.

A male kangaroo is called a boomer

A female kangaroo is called a flyer

A baby kangaroo is called a joey

I like to see their actions...sexy..ehehe.

Patriotic

Sorrento Quay, Hillary Boat Harbour

On the way back from AQWA - the Aquarium of Western Australia, I went to Sorrento Quay for window shopping and looking for the food. But nothing much in the shops and even the kebab outlet sold only halal chicken kebab and the rest of the menu are not halal...umm..I don't feel like eating there. So I just walked around the open space to get some fresh air. Somehow I saw a signpost and as my eyes caught the name of Kuala Lumpur on one of the direction I felt so proud (reflexion of Bulan Merdeka..ehehe). At least the aussie recognized Kuala Lumpur as one of the major cities. But when I got closer, my enthusiasm drained to disappointment......KUALA LUMPAR...what a shame!!!!!! Can you all see it???
Eating by colours

French cutlets, roasted potatoes, grilled mushroom and tomatoes

Eating is one of my favourite activities. Well of course people need to eat. But I think I have extra passion for food. Err …maybe I can be considered as one of the gastronomist. But the irony is that my body maintain like a plank of wood. Well, nothing surprise at all because I’m not a healthy child anyway.. My weight dropped after undergoing major operation about 10 years ago. Ever since my weight just increased a few kgs till now. I have lots of advise from friends and relatives…you should eat a lot bla..bla..bla… but its only my closed family knows who am I..the food monster. My big sister used to warn me to watch my diet because she worried I took a lot of food with high cholesterol. People always relate the high cholesterol with big size but it is totally wrong. Even slim people also facing the same problem… When I lived abroad for almost 5 years, what I missed most is my mum’s cooking and Malaysian food. I think by then I started to appreciate my own country and lot of my friends agree with me. Well this is the most common issues shared by Malaysian living abroad. “Anywhere is always lesser than one's homeland, no matter how lacking it can be”…. or 'Hujan emas di negeri orang , hujan batu di negeri sendiri, baik lagi negeri sendiri…' At the beginning, it so difficult...I’m lousy in cooking but for survival cooking skill is a must. I cannot eat kebab all the time because my ‘Malaysian stomach’ need rice and Malaysian food. Thanks to technology, with the help of internet, I can access to lot of recipe and from there on I keep on trying all different kind of recipes. My mum help me a lot, she is my call center. As time goes by, my skill is getting better. When I returned to Malaysia, I was pampered by my mum, all the stalls and restaurants. Easy access to foods and busy with works make me full time gastronomist rather then a ‘chef’. The lazy syndrome develops faster than anything, so I just cook once in a while…and I found out most of my skill tarnished. There is a lot of recipe that I used to remember by heart, now all gone. I don’t expect that I will be away from Malaysia for another longer period, so now I start all over again. It’s not too bad though, I just need to polish a bit here and there to improve my cooking skill. When I’m writing this entry, it does remind me of arwah Zul. The colon cancer that took his life.. .kind of alert me to watch my diet and “eating by colour”. Eats balance diet with more vegetables and less red meat will help.

Life is like a boat
Rotness Island, Western Australia
In the blink of eyes, they lost their parents and 3 other siblings. What even worst, the 15 years old survivor saw the fire swallowed her loved one and can’t do nothing to help. She is traumatised with the incident. This heartrending story makes me ponder and I belief all things happen for a reason. In this world, not all people are fortunate. I can imagine parents with 3 children at the university and the rest still schoolings need lot of money to spend;

Due to incident, they are killed in a horrific blaze that gutted their wooden house in Kampung Tengah, Kluang at 3.30 am. This is all faith, Allah loves them more.
This what people said, the love of the parents is more than anything. They will sacrifice for their kids. This is a good lesson for me as a son to fulfil my responsibility towards my parents. If they can take care all of us, there is no reason for many of us can't take care just both of them. We will be at their shoes one day. After we have grown old and our children have flown the nest and have their own nests, you are sent off to the Old Folks' Home, what will be the feeling? That’s is the reason, if we treat our parents bad, most likely our children will do the same when we are old.

Al-fatihah to the victims and May Allah place all of them among the believer..ameen. And to the survivor and the rest of their children, I hope they will study hard because with the ilmu they can change their life and also be good children. Always pray for the family members that passed away.

One down, more to come!
Rotness Island, Western Australia

Alhamdulilah!!!!! one hurdle down, more to come. I’m done with my candidacy after struggling with sweat and pain. The presentation in front of the professor, associate professor, senior lecturers and friends took almost 1 hour including Q&A session. The session also reached lecturer in another campus with teleconferencing. I started my presentation with no emotion and butterflies in my stomach all flew away. I regain my confidence with the supports from the member of the floor. In this country, people are really helps when it comes to presentation. The best underlying principle is that they really want to help by giving brilliant suggestion not CONDENMING. The same scenario also happens in UK. I still clearly remember during my viva session when I was in UK few years back. Two professor from other university (external Examiner) and 1 internal examiner created a relax and friendly moment of time for me when I hardly can’t sleep the night before facing the stomach churning so call viva. They really help to cool me down and I can be myself to defend my thesis up to my knowledge with no interference of nervousness. Anyway, it is such a big relief after the candidacy. My supervisor said she’s happy with my presentation and I can celebrate…but “don’t get yourself drunk”! I just smiled and deep down I want to explain that as a Muslim, I don’t take alcohol at all. I did celebrate but with my friends at one of the Malay restaurant.

Time keeper
Technology Park, Brodie Hall
Last night I did my work till 1 am in the work station. Luckily the security guard become my time keeper, remind me I’m late..but he said I can stay if I want. Deep down in my heart I rather stay but I need rest and decided will be back first early in the morning. But somehow because worried too much I had sleeping difficulties and I don’t even know what time I fall asleep. What make it worst, heck…I woke up late this morning but luckily I still have enough time to tidy up the document and email it before mid day as requested by my supervisor. What a relief even though there are still tonne of work waiting. I just went home by noon to take a break. Since I’m so busy lately, my house is just like a ship wreck. So I took this opportunity to do my laundry, cooking and cleaning. I feel so good to see things in order and clean.

new but yet old..
